about

Foxy Brown is part of the Sex Industry Trilogy, along with 1-800 HOT and Porno Chic. This series is inspired by the sex industry of the 70s/80s/90s and all the music that stemmed from its rapid growth. Foxy Brown is inspired by music from erotic thrillers of the 70s and 80s, particularly blaxploitation movies.

Foxy Brown is a 1974 American blaxploitation film written and directed by Jack Hill. It stars Pam Grier as the title character who poses as a prostitute to take on a gang of white drug dealers who murdered her boyfriend.

It was heavily criticized, not only for its “disturbing” portrayal of black womanhood, but also for its controversial stereotypes about violence and drug abuse in black culture.

Despite criticism, Foxy was the poster child for a new type of heroine who was subsequently appropriated by the blaxploitation genre. She redefined African-American beauty, sexuality, and womanhood, which led to the diversification of African-American actresses onscreen.

Foxy Brown is considered to be one of the most influential blaxploitation films, with Pam Grier's character seen as the female archetype of the genre.
